About Six Minutes

Built by people who know the six minutes that decide it.

We started Six Minutes because MMI prep shouldn't cost hundreds of pounds or rely on generic question banks. It should be a real conversation with someone who's actually sat where you're about to sit.

Why we exist

The gap between free advice and expensive agencies

Question banks and YouTube videos don't react to how you actually answer. Coaching agencies react to how you answer, but often charge premium package-only pricing with little control over who you work with. We built a marketplace instead — students pick the tutor, tutors set their own rate, and every profile is manually verified before it goes live.

How we work

Open marketplace, closed to nobody who's qualified

Every tutor applies with their university or NHS email, and where relevant, their GMC number. We check each application by hand before a profile goes live, so students always know who they're booking. Beyond that, we stay out of the way — tutors set their own price and hours, and students choose freely.

Tutor guide

Everything you need to know about how tutoring on Six Minutes actually works — payment, cancellations, session flow, and recording policy.

1. Payment structure

You keep 80% of your advertised rate. The remaining 20% is our platform fee, which covers payment processing, marketing to secure a constant stream of students, and running the platform itself.

For example: if you list your rate as £30/hour, your take-home is £24/hour per session.

2. The 30-day payout hold

Payment for a session is held on the platform for 30 days after the session before you can request a payout for it from your dashboard. This is simply to provide a window in which a student can raise an issue with a lesson or request a refund, so an investigation can take place before money has already left the platform. Once 30 days have passed, a "Request payout" button appears next to that session on your dashboard. All payments are processed through a third-party site called Stripe. You will need to create an account with them to receive your payout. You will be prompted to do so when requesting your first payout.

3. Rescheduling, cancellations, and staying on-platform

Every reschedule request and cancellation is handled through your dashboard — you'll always be able to see the current status of a session there, including if a student has proposed a new time.

Do not contact students outside the platform — no personal phone numbers, social media, or messaging apps, at any point, for any reason. Many of our students are minors, and keeping every interaction on-platform is one of the protections we rely on for their safety. This applies even after a lesson is booked or completed.

4. Tutor cancellation policy

If you need to cancel, what happens depends on whether you've confirmed the session yet:

  • Declining a pending request (before you've accepted it): the student is refunded in full, automatically. No penalty to your profile.
  • Cancelling a confirmed, upcoming session: the student is refunded in full, automatically, and your profile is hidden from new student bookings for 7 days. Your other upcoming sessions with other students are not affected.

Cancelling confirmed sessions repeatedly may affect your standing on the platform — please only confirm sessions you're able to make.

5. How a lesson actually works, start to finish

  1. A student books a lesson, choosing a date and time slot from the weekly availability you set on your profile. They can book up to 3 hours with you. This can be either consecutively, or on separate days. You can decline or reschedule each session request.
  2. It appears on your dashboard as a pending request. You can accept, decline, or propose a different time (reschedule).
  3. Once both sides confirm the time, you'll be prompted to enter a Google Meet link — this is the platform we use for the actual lesson.
  4. Every step is timestamped: when the session was confirmed, when the link was sent, and when each side clicked it. This record exists so there's a clear, neutral account of what happened if a lesson is ever disputed.
  5. After the lesson, come back to your dashboard and mark the session complete. You may not receive your payment for a completed session otherwise.
  6. Enter the student's scores for each section you tested or taught. These build into a running average shown on the student's dashboard across all their completed sessions.

6. Recording sessions

Please try to record every session including audio on both sides, where possible. This is not mandatory, but it's the single most useful thing you can have if a student ever disputes what happened in a lesson — you may be asked to provide it as evidence.

  • Keep each recording for up to 30 days on your own device, then delete it.
  • You must get the student's consent before the session starts. If they don't consent, do not record — no exceptions.
  • If a dispute arises and you're unable to provide a recording, that will be taken into account when the dispute is reviewed.
  • The recordings cannot be distributed, or shown to others in any capacity. If this behaviour is caught, your account will be terminated and all pending payments cancelled - no exceptions.
For students

Student guide

How recordings, complaints, and refunds work on Six Minutes.

1. Recording policy

Tutors are encouraged (though not required) to record sessions, audio on both sides, purely so there's a neutral record if a lesson is ever disputed.

  • Your tutor must ask for your consent before the session starts. You're always free to say no — declining doesn't affect your booking in any way.
  • If a recording exists, it's kept for up to 30 days and then deleted.
  • Recordings are never shared or distributed outside of a dispute review — a tutor doing so is a serious breach of our policy on their end and there are severe consequences associated with it.
  • Similarly, please do not record sessions without consent from the tutor. Your recordings must be kept for your learning only and must not be shared.

2. Filing a complaint

If something went wrong with a session (the tutor didn't show, the lesson wasn't what you expected, anything else) use the Contact Us page.

  • You'll need the session's order number — find it on your dashboard next to that session.
  • We review every complaint by hand. If a recording exists, it may be requested from your tutor as part of that review.
  • Every action taken on your dashboard with regards to a session is monitored. We will be able to see logs of sessions.
  • You'll hear back from us with the outcome once it's been looked into.

3. Refund policy

What you're owed back depends on when, and by whom, a session is cancelled:

  • You cancel 24 hours or more before the session: the tutor's fee is refunded in full. The platform fee isn't refundable.
  • You cancel within 24 hours of the session: non-refundable.
  • The tutor declines your request, or cancels a confirmed session: you're refunded in full, automatically.

Refunds are processed automatically the moment a cancellation happens — you don't need to request one separately.
